Abstract Details
Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to compare the measurements of intraocular pressure (IOP) in glaucomatous and non-glaucomatous patients using IcareOne rebound tonometer (Finland Oy, Espoo, Finland) via scleral rebound tonometry (RT), with Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT). Also, correlations of the above parameters with ophthalmic axial length and central corneal thickness are presented.

Department of Ophthalmology of Tzaneion General Hospital in Piraeus, Greece
Methods:
40 consecutive eyes of glaucomatous and 40 consecutive eyes of non- glaucomatous patients were included in this study. Uncorrected visual acuity, best corrected visual acuity, axial length of the eye (AXL), central corneal thickness (CCT), IOP measured by GAT, corneal RT and scleral RT were recorded in all patients.
Results:
A statistically significant correlation was detected between GAT and corneal RT with IcareOne in both glaucomatous (r =0.959, p ̴ 0) and non glaucomatous patients (r=0.956, p ̴ 0). Statistically significant correlation was found between corneal RT and CCT in both groups of patients. (r = 0.512 p = 0.001) and (r = 0.311, p = 0.05). A strong positive correlation was found between scleral RT and GAT (r= 0.366, p = 0.02) in non glaucomatous patients. The correlation between scleral RT and axial length of the eye was statistically not significant in both groups of patients.
Conclusions:
Scleral rebound tonometry using Icare One could constitute an alternative tool for measuring intraocular pressure in patients with corneal pathologies, where diagnosis and monitoring of glaucoma is challenging.
