Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the learning curve of FLACS with Ziemer Z8,comparing the difficulties and complications wit manual phacoemulsification.
Setting:
Hospital ArrĂ¡bida Porto Portugal
Methods:
50 consecutive eyes with cataracts of different grades were operated with FLACS with Ziemer Z8. The vaccuum time,the amount of ultrasound used,the surgical technique and complications were evaluated.
Results:
During the learning curve the vaccuum time has been reduced from 3 minutes to 2 minutes.The surgical technique has been improved leading to decrease in US time. No complications were observed during the learning curve.
Conclusions:
Like any surgical technique, Flacs has a learning curve. It is a steep curve that leads to optimization of the procedure.. However it is important to point that no complications occurred during the learning curve of FLACS with Ziemer Z8.
