Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate implanted Toric intraocular lenses position changes in different postoperative period after uncomplicated cataract surgery.

Setting:

Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kauno Klinikos, Ophthalmology department, Lithuania

Methods:

There were analyzed case histories of patients (operated by one surgeon) that received TIOL at the LUHS Ophthalmology department in 2007-2016. All patients received TIOL models SN60T/SN6AT. 12 patients who agreed to participate in study were invited for re-examination (RE). Preoperative data (diagnosis, comorbidities, uncorrected visual acuity (UVA), best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA)) were evaluated. 1 after surgery and during RE, UVA, BCVA and TIOL position (rotation) were assesed. The position of the TIOL was determined by ophthalmoscopic examination of the fully expanded pupil as determined by the rotation of the slit lamp beam to the IOL axis mark.

Results:

The study included 12 patients (18 eyes: 61.1% OD, 38.9% OS) 33.3% men and 66.7% women. Mean age was 59.8 ± 18.8 years. RE was made after 1953,6 days. There were 66% without comorbidities, 17% had glaucoma, 17% had other conditions, in RE 6% of them had secondary cataract. Pre-operative UVA was 0.19 ± 0.17, BCVA was 0,39 ± 0.27. 1st after surgery UVA was 0.52 ± 0.29, BCVA 0.68 ± 0.3. During RE UVA was 0.69 ± 0.32, BCVA was 0.85 ± 0.25. 1st after surgery, the TIOL position was 90.06º ± 6.79º, during RE - 89.89º ± 7.08º.

Conclusions:

1. There was no statistically significant change in TIOL position during re-examination. Type of cataract or comorbidities had no influence to TIOL positioning. 2. There was a statistically significant improvement in UVA and BCVA first day postoperatively compared to pre-operative results and during re-examination compared to first day postoperatively.
