Long-term results of implantation of trifocal toric intraocular lens

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To study the results of implantation of diffraction-refractive trifocal toric intraocular lenses in the long term period.

Setting:

Methods:

A prospective open study is devoted to the study of long-term results of phacoemulsification with implantation of diffraction-refractive trifocal toric IOL "AcrySof IQ PanOptix Toric IOL" in 21 patients (52 eyes). Uncorrected (UNVA) and corrected (MCVA) visual acuity at different distances, postoperative spherical and cylindrical equivalents, the state of the posterior lens capsule. The position, tilt, center, and rotational stability of the IOL were evaluated using the digital slit lamp "BQ 900 Haag-Streit" using the "IMAGING MODULE IM 900" and the software "EyeSuite" (Switzerland).

Results:

6 months after the operation, the UNVA and MCVA were made up near, at intermediate distances, and far away 0.76±0.14, 0.790±0.09, 0.87±0.19 and 0.96±0.07, 0.91±0.04, 0.89±0.04 accordingly. The spherical and cylindrical equivalents were 0.13±0.39 and -0.34±0.22 DPTR, respectively. IOL rotation 2.84°±3.33° (range 0.0°-4.8°); IOL decentralization horizontally-0.22±0.29 mm, vertically-0.12±0.29 mm; IOL frontal tilt-1.03°±1.22°. Loss of posterior corneal epithelium cells-3.97±1.2%. The quality of life was estimated by patients at 96.7±4.8 points (according to NEI VFQ-25); do not use glasses for distance, average distance and proximity 24 (92%), 21 (100%) and 19 (73%) patients, respectively. Mild dysphotopsias were observed in 18% of patients.

Conclusions:

Implantation of trifocal toric IOLs is a highly effective and predictable method for correcting aphakia and astigmatism, providing high functional results in the distance, at intermediate and close distances. All patients were satisfied with the results of the operation, and the quality of life was rated high-96.7±4.8 points.
