Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the difference of the stereopsis from distant to near of the patients with monovision and patients implanted with trifocal IOLs.
Setting:
Ohashi Eye Center, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.
Methods:
24 patients who underwent cataract surgery were enrolled in this
experiment (13 with trifocal IOLs and 11 with monovision). We evaluated stereopsis of patients implanted with trifocal IOLs (AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal TFNT00), and monovision (HOYA acryfold and HOYA iSert XY1). The refraction difference in the monovision patients between emmetropic eye and myopic eye was 0.88~3.0 diopter. Stereopsis at the distance of 0.3m, 0.5m, 0.7m, 3m, and 5m was measured by the OCULUS Binoptometer® 4P (OCULUS, Inc).
Results:
“Trifocal” group showed good stereopsis in all distances (at 0.3m 150±140 seconds, at 0.5m 76±21 seconds, at 0.7m 82±38 seconds, at 3m 109±93 seconds, at 5m 143±115 seconds). “Monovision” group showed worse stereopsis in all distances compared to “Trifocal” group (at 0.3m 378±221 seconds, at 0.5m 276±256 seconds, at 0.7m 335±237 seconds, at 3m 416±207 seconds, at 5m 480±224 seconds). Even after the unfocused eyes in “Monovision” group were corrected, they still showed worse stereopsis in all distances compared to the “Trifocal” group (p≺0.05).
Conclusions:
Patients with binocular trifocal IOLs showed better stereopsis compared to the monovision patients in all distances.
