Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess optical coherence tomography (OCT) retinal measurements after trifocal toric intraocular lens (IOL) implantation
Setting:
Clínica Rementería, Madrid, Spain
Methods:
The study included patients having bilateral implantation of a trifocal toric IOL (AcrySof® IQ PanOptixTM Toric IOL). A group of patients having implantation of a monofocal IOL (AcrySof® IQ SN60WF) was considered as a control group. The IOL power calculation was made in order to obtain emmetropia in all patients. Patients underwent basic OCT retinal measurements with the Cirrus HD-OCT®: mean average macular thickness, macular volume and retinal fiber nerve layer (RFNL) thickness. In all cases, OCT was performed before and three months after the surgery.
Results:
The study analyzed 100 eyes of 100 patients (50 with monofocal and 50 with trifocal toric IOL). For the monofocal IOL, preoperative and postoperative values of the macular thickness, macular volume and RNFL were: 255.7 versus 260.3 µm, respectively (P<0.001); 9.9 versus 10.0 mm3 (P<0.001), respectively; 86.7 versus 87.5 µm (P=0.14), respectively. For the trifocal toric IOL preoperative and postoperative values of the macular thickness, macular volume and RNFL were: 258.2 versus 265.1 µm (P<0.001), respectively; 10.0 versus 10.1 µm (P<0.001), respectively; 91.1 versus 92.0 µm (P=0.20), respectively.
Conclusions:
The results of the present study suggest that the implantation of a trifocal toric IOL does not interfere in the correct evaluation of some retinal parameters when using a spectral-domain OCT
