Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare corneal incision size before and after implantation of intraocular lens, behavior of the IOL and easiness of use between original UltraSert IQ (2016), newly optimized UltraSert IQ (2017) and Clareon AutonoMe.
Setting:
Department of Ophthalmology, Medical University of Warsaw.
Methods:
Prospective, parallel group, randomized, post-market clinical study. Patients were signed up upon predetermined inclusion criteria. The effectiveness results compared corneal incision size and wound stretching after implantation of IOL. Exploratory results included control process of folding IOL, visibility of IOL in the delivery system, easiness of positioning the frontal haptic in the lens capsule, utility of plunger tip and overall rating of simplicity to use.
Results:
Ninety eyes in three equal groups of 30 eyes were operated by five surgeons in the study . In all groups 2.2 mm knife was used for the first incision . Mean corneal incision before and after the IOL implantation was comparable between two versions of UltraSert and Clareon AutonoMe.
Conclusions:
All three preloaded delivery systems support the smallest incision size and comparable wound stretching. The latest UltraSert provided better predicatbility of haptic positioning , better lens behaviour and overall stability compared to previous version. Clareon AutonoMe had the best visibility of the implant, it’s behavior was the most predictable and easiness to use was superior compared to UltraSert.
