Abstract Details
Purpose:
To report operative complications, visual and refractive outcome data following implantation of an enhanced monofocal IOL during refractive cataract surgery.
Setting:
Optegra Eye Hospitals, UK
Methods:
Observational case series of the clinical and patient reported outcomes of intraocular lens surgery performed with TECNIS Eyhance IOL (Johnson & Johnson, Santa Ana, USA) implantation. 312 procedures were performed and the consecutive clinical outcomes were recorded in an electronic medical record system. Eyes targeted for near monovision outcome or eyes with recorded co-morbidities were excluded, and EMR data for the remaining 218 eyes were available for analysis.
Results:
There were no operative complications recorded. Monocular uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) of 20/40 and 20/25 or better was achieved by 95% and 62% of eyes respectively. Mean spherical equivalent refraction was within ±1.00D and within ±0.50D of predicted post-operative refraction in 97% and 79% of eyes respectively. 51% and 32% of eyes with near vision data achieved monocular uncorrected near visual acuity of N10 and N8 or better respectively. Emerging patient reported outcomes data showed 100% of respondents were satisfied with their distance, 90% were satisfied with mid-range vision and 82% were free from troublesome glare and haloes.
Conclusions:
Our emerging data suggest that patients implanted with the TECNIS Eyhance IOL achieve satisfactory clinical and subjective outcomes at distance, and intermediate whilst achieving some degree of unaided near vision. Data collection is ongoing to provide comparative data on a wider range of metrics.
