Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the outcomes following implantation of monofocal IOL in one eye and ERV IOL in the contralateral eye with micromonovision.
Setting:
Nethradhama Super Speciality Eye Hospital, Bangalore, India
Methods:
Twenty five subjects underwent bilateral cataract surgery. Dominant eye received monofocal Tecnis One IOL implantation while in the contralateral non-dominant eye ERV Tecnis Symfony IOL implantation was done with micromonovision. The dominant eye was targeted for emmetropia and the non-dominant eye for myopia of -0.5 to -0.75D. Uncorrected and corrected distance (UDVA, CDVA), intermediate (UIVA, CIVA), and near (UNVA, DCNVA) visual acuity; reading performance, defocus curve and contrast sensitivity were studied. Dysphotopsia grading was done. Follow-ups were conducted at 1 and 6 months postoperatively.
Results:
At 6 months postoperatively the mean binocular UDVA, CDVA, UNVA and DCNVA were -0.012 ± 0.08, -0.032 ± 0.08, 0.296 ± 0.08 and 0.484 ± 0.06 logMAR respectively. All patients had ≥0.2 logMAR UDVA and ≥0.5 logMAR UNVA. Reading acuity and reading speeds showed improvement over time. Dysphotopsia score was 3(mild) at one month and 0 (none) at 6 months. All patients achieved spectacle independence.
Conclusions:
Implantation of monofocal IOL in one eye and ERV IOL in the other with micromonovision yielded good outcomes for far and intermediate results, satisfactory outcomes for near vision and good tolerance to micromonovision at the end of 6 months.
