Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the new Vivity non-diffractive extended-depth-of-focus (EDOF) intraocular lens (IOL) (Alcon).

Setting:

Amphia hospital, Breda, the The Netherlands

Methods:

So far 4 patients have been recruited for cataract surgery with bilateral implantation of the Vivity (DFTn15) IOL in the lens bag; recruitment is ongoing. Targeted spherical equivalent refractive error (SEQ) was emmetropia in the dominant eye and -0.5 D in the fellow eye. Binocular uncorrected distance (UDVA), intermediate (UIVA), and near (UNVA) visual acuity was assessed. Reading acuity and speed (as words per minute [wpm]) were assessed with the Dutch Radner reading chart. Straylight was assessed with the C-Quant straylight meter. Patient-reported outcomes were assessed with the Catquest-9SF NL and the Patient-Reported Spectacle Independence Questionnaire (PRSIQ).

Results:

So far, one patient has received bilateral implantation. Mean age was 29 years. SEQ was -0.50 D and -0.25 D in the right and left eye, respectively. Binocular UDVA was -0.18 logMar, UIVA was +0.03 logRAD, and UNVA was +0.12 logRAD. Reading speed was 200 wpm at intermediate and 142 wpm at near. Straylight (log[s]) was 1.05 and 1.12 in the right and left eye, respectively. When asked, the patient reported having no dysphotopsias. Catquest-9SF showed a Rasch score of 4.42. PRSIQ showed complete spectacle independence for both far and intermediate; reading glasses were usually used for near.

Conclusions:

Early results with the Vivity non-diffractive EDOF IOL show spectacle independence for far and intermediate and no reported dysphotopsias. Reading glasses were usually used. Straylight was within the pseudophakic straylight norm.
