Abstract Details
Purpose:
Diseases of eyelid margins and lashes present unique challenges in their management because of proximity to the eyeball. Quite often it requires close collaboration between the managing dermatologist and ophthalmologist to prevent any untoward adverse effect on the delicate ocular structures.
Setting:
Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Amritsar
Methods:
We present a series of unusual cases involving eyelid margins by atypical pathogens including Phthiriasis palpebral, Beetle dermatitis, Demodex blepharitis, tick blepharitis, and ophthalmomyasis and discuss their management
Results:
Diagnosis for these entities was established and confirmed by using various laboratory techniques of routine microscopy, histopathology and genetic analyses in addition to the routine clinical examination.
Conclusions:
Eyelid infestations may be associated with a variety of ocular signs and symptoms. Ophthalmologists must be aware of these unusual entities for their appropriate management.
