Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare the efficacy between Tea Tree Oil (Sprainer, Ophtha) and topic 1% azithromycin in patients with anterior blepharitis using the 5M Keratograph
Setting:
Oftalmosalud Institute Eyes Lima Peru
Methods:
Prospective, randomized and comparative clinical trial of 24 patients who had clinical anterior blepharitis signs. Tea Tree Oil (Sprainer, Ophtha) treatment was applied every 12 hours for 6 weeks and the second group received 1% topical Azithromycin, in the same way, every 12 hours for 2 weeks. Pre and post-treatmeent evaluation included Demodex Test, lower and upper Meibography, NIKBUT and Lacrimal Meniscus using the 5M Keratograph (Oculus). Statistical analysis was performed using Anova Type.
Results:
26 eyes received treatment TTO and 24 eyes with Azithromycin. A comparison between group and time was made, in the first moth we had (P=0.414) of ML nasal, ML medio (p= 0.133) Ml Temporal (p=0.159), NIKBUT 1 (p=0.426) NIKBUT medio (p=0.055) The results indicate that the treatments have the same effect over time for the evaluated variables.
Conclusions:
Both groups achieved efficient and safe reduction of symptoms, however, clinically, greater results are observed in the group that used Tea Tree Oil. The percentages are referential. group versus time interaction will continue to be compared.
