Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare the accommodative amplitudes between the healthy subjects and with those who have pseudoexfoliation.
Setting:
Prospective case-control study
Methods:
In this prospective case-control study, 75 eyes of subjects aged 40-65 years were enrolled. In Group 1, there were 35 eyes having pseudoexfoliation and in Group 2, there were 40 normal eyes. After recording the best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements, the accommodation amplitudes (AA) was determined using spherical lens test. Anterior chamber depth (ACD) and lens thickness (LT) were assessed with Pentacam. Besides, root mean square (RMS) for higher order aberrations (HOA) was evaluated by using iDesign aberrometer. The results were compared between groups.
Results:
There was no significant difference between groups with respect to the mean ages (p = 0.17). The mean BCVA and IOP was similar in both groups (p = 0.25 and p = 0.42). There was a significant decrease in mean AA in subjects with pseudoexfoliation p = 0.01). ACD,
Conclusions:
AA can significantly deteriorated in subjects with pseudoexfoliation. It should be kept in mind that early symptoms of presbyopia can occur in patients with pseuodexfoliation.
