Purpose:
To evaluate the powerful, rapid effect of the blood derived products Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and fibrin in reconstructing and healing superficial ocular lesions.
Setting:
This new surgical technique was carried at Vissum Alicante.
Methods:
A middle aged man with history of chronic scleral eroding calcified lesion. We started by dissecting the conjunctiva removing all the adhesions and the calcific lesion as much as possible then a piece of bovine pericardium was sutured over the lesion to strengthen this part of sclera, a fibrin membrane was placed to cover the whole area, then fibrin clots were added and we sutured the conjunctiva. Tarssoraphe was done to stabilize the ocular surface for good healing.
Results:
Complete healing of the eroding lesion, with normal appearance of a healthy normal sclera appearance
Conclusions:
The outcomes confirmed that Fibrin and PRP together have a great magic effect in healing superficial ocular lesion with no complications
