Abstract Details
Purpose:
The aim of this retrospective analysis was to evaluate the clinical outcomes, aberrations and effective optical zones in eyes with low refractive errors treated with transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (TransPRK)
Setting:
Muscat Eye Laser Center
Methods:
142 eyes with myopia/astigmatism and a most negative meridian less or equals to -2.50 diopters were treated with Trans-PRK with large optical zones using the Schwind Amaris 1050RS. Visual acuity, manifest refraction, corneal Scheimpflug and placido imaging, and corneal wavefront aberrations were measured preoperatively and at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery. The refractive outcomes, vector parameters, corneal aberrations, and the effective optical zones were evaluated 12 months after surgery
Results:
Mean postoperative SE was -0.01D (±0.09), with 99% of the eyes within 0.5D of the target. 99% of the eyes with UDVA same or better than preoperative CDVA and 36% of them improving 1 or more lines. 36% of the eyes gained lines of CDVA and 1 eye lost 1 line of CDVA. Mean effective OZ exceeded 6.25mm. The corneal total root-mean-square higher-order aberrations and coma did not change from preop to postop, and spherical aberrations significantly decreased after Trans-PRK.
Conclusions:
Transepithelial PRK with a large OZ provided effective and safe outcomes for the correction of low myopia with excellent visual acuity and refractive outcomes.
