Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the correlation between maximum keratometry (Kmax) measurements obtained with two Scheimpflug devices, Pentacam HR and Precisio, and to elaborate, if necessary, a regression formula which could make these results comparable.
Setting:
University Eye Clinic, Department of Medicine, Surgery and Dentistry, “Scuola Medica Salernitana”, University of Salerno, Italy.
Methods:
136 healthy eyes of 68 volunteers (33 males and 35 females; range: 17-87 years; mean age of 34 ± 18) were included in this study. Kmax was measured on the anterior axial map with Pentacam HR and on the total axial map with Precisio at 3 mm.
Results:
The axial power calculated at 3mm on the anterior map with Pentacam and on the total map with Precisio showed a good correlation (R2=0.8139) with a significant difference (p<0.01). The measurements with Precisio were significantly lower than those of Pentacam, with a difference of 2±0.7 D (range from 38.9 to 45.4 D for Precisio and from 40.4 to 48.5 D for Pentacam).
Conclusions:
The findings provided by this study highlight that Precisio measures lower curvature compared to Pentacam HR. The regression formulas we identified could be utilized to make interchangeable the two measurements.
