Abstract Details
Purpose:
To audit our SLT outcomes and compare them to current literature. We also studied the changes in trends in our practice since the introduction of the LiGHT study and the effects of this option of treatment on services
Setting:
The ophthalmology department in Luton and Dunstable University Hospitals, UK
Methods:
In this retrospective cohort study, we reviewed the electronic patients’ records (EPR) of a cohort of 208 patients, with open angle glaucoma, who underwent SLT from 1/12/2018 till 1/12/2019, either as primary treatment or as a secondary treatment for uncontrolled glaucoma. The intraocular pressure and the number of drops were used as the main studied parameters
Results:
It has a been a 5 fold increase in number of SLT perform in our department over the last year. 25.4% (n:53) cases were as secondary treatment whilst 74% (n:155) were as a primary treatment. 71% of cases had reduction in IOP of 3mmhg, 57% have managed to be taken off or reduce the number drops after SLT.
Conclusions:
The use of SLT has increased in our department over the last year in view of the LiGHT study results, not only as primary treatment but also as an alternative or to reduce the use of anti-glaucoma drops adding to our panoply to control open glaucoma in certain groups of patients. Moreover, our results are in concordance with current literature and also keeping with the LiGHT study results for primary treatment cases.
