The effect of intravitreal ceftazidime injection on endogenous klebsiella pneumoniae endophthalmitis in Korean patients

Purpose:
To report long-term outcomes of intraviteal ceftazidime injection in Korean patients with endogenous klebsiella pneumoniae endophthalmitis (EKPE).
Setting:
Retrospective observational case study
Methods:
7 eyes from 6 patients with EKPE were included. The medical records from January 2010 to December 2018 were reviewed.
Results:
A total 7 eyes of for 6 patients with EKPE included. Diagnosis of EKPE was present of endophthalmitis with concurrent systemic infection with positive blood culture. All patients were underwent tap and intravitreal ceftazidime injection base on the results of antibiotics sensitivity test from blood culture. Visual acuities at initial visit from no light perception to 20/60, final visual acuities from no light perception to 20/20. Two eyes underwent evisceration after intravitreal injection.
Conclusions:
Intravitreal ceftazidime injection showed favorable results the patients with EKPE in Korean patients.
