Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the visual outcome and endothelial cell count changes following deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK)
Setting:
: Memorial institute for ophthalmic research ,Giza ,Egypt
Methods:
The study induces 30 patients underwent deep lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) .Surgeries were done using big bubble technique .UCVA and BCVA were measured preoperative and followed over 6 weeks and 24 weeks following surgery . Endothelial cell density of central corneal graft was measured using specular microscopy preoperative, 6weeks postoperative and 24weeks postoperative.
Results:
There was clinically significant improvement regarding the UCVA which change from 1.620±0.098(logMar)to 1.427±0.08(logMar)(p=0.001).There was also clinically significant improvement regarding the BCVA which change from 1.430±0.07(logMar)at 6w to 0.987±0.07(logMar)(p=0.000) at 24 weeks. The endothelial cell density changes from 2905.5±119.5 preoperative to 2374.8±113.5 after 6weeks with clinically significant cell loss (p=0.000)and again decrease to 1894±113.2 with significant change (p=0.000).
Conclusions:
There was significant endothelial cell loss in 6 weeks and 24 weeks period following deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) and there was significant improvement regarding visual outcome
