Abstract Details
Purpose:
To find the method of intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation after refractive surgery.
Setting:
Saevit Eye Hospital, Goyang, Korea
Methods:
41 eyes from 29 patients were enrolled that had undergone cataract surgery from September 2018 to September 2019 after refractive surgery. Preoperative AL scan (Nidek, Japan) was used to measure the axial length, anterior chamber depth, and corneal curvature, and the IOL power calculation was performed using the Shammas-PL formula. The mean absolute error (MAE) was calculated using preoperative manifest refraction and postoperative manifest refraction, and the accuracy was determined by comparing the preoperative and postoperative manifest refraction.
Results:
Of the 41 eyes, 15 eyes (36.6%) were relatively hyperopic shifted after surgery compared to the predicted refractive error before surgery, and 25 eyes (61%) showed relatively myopic shifted, and 1 eye (2.4%) was the same as the previous refractive predicted error. Refractive errors before cataract surgery were not related to myopic, emmetropic, and hyperopic shifting after surgery.
Conclusions:
When cataract surgery was performed after refractive surgery, myopic shifting is more common than hyperopic shifting. And the MAE was greater in myopic shifted cases than that of hyperopic shifted cases. So it would be better to determine IOL power toward the hyperopic side than the target refractive prediction.
