Abstract Details

Purpose:

the objective of our presentation is to study the cataract with a locked body in the lens and the infectious risk considering the corneal wound

Setting:

Our case is of a 47 year old patient living in a rural area with no particular history, he was hammering and a metallic body was projected on his left eye causing a ausing a decrease in visual acuity. He only consulted 8 days later

Methods:

the ophthalmological examination revealed a paracentral corneal wound of about 2mm and a post traumatic cataract with an intra-crystalline lens foreign metallic body. The anterior chamber was of good depth and the seidel was not revealed. The patient received an ocular ultrasound and an orbital scan to find an associated lesion of the posterior segment.

Results:

The imaging did not show any signs of endophtralmia , damage in the posterior capsule, damage in the retina nor intraocular foreign body. the patient has therefore been prepared for cataract surgery . The latter was successful and has been done in two stages, firstly the extraction of the metallic body then the phacoemulsification.

Conclusions:

The cataract with intra lenticular-body is a rare condition. The two main risks in the event of a foreign body of the lens are cataracts and infectious risk. The treatment can be conservative by the extraction of the foreign body in case of clear lens , and it can also be achieved by the extraction of the body first and then the phaco emulsification.
