Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate safety and efficacy of phakic contact lens (IPCL) implantation in high myopia patient.
Setting:
Vision Health Research center, Semnan University of Medical Sciences, Semnan, Iran
Methods:
This study included 57 eyes which underwent implantation of phakic contact lens (IPCL V2, Care group Sight Solutions, India)). The main variables included uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCVA), best corrected distance visual acuity (BCVA) , sphere, astigmatism, and endothelial cell density were examined preoperatively and 1, 3, 6 and 12 months postoperatively. Also Intraoperative and postoperative complications were evaluated.
Results:
Mean age of the subjects was 39.9 ±8.25 years. Pre operative BCVA was 0.84± 0.15 which improved to 0.78±0.08. At the preoperative visits, patients showed count fingers vision about 2 meters. The mean post operative UCVA reach to 0.78D ( range 0.4 to 1). Preoperatively, the mean sphere and astigmatism was -9.2 ±3.1 and -2.4±2.2 which reduced to -0.15 ±0.3 and -0.87 ± 0.62 at postoperative visit . The endothelial cell loss was 4.08%±3.18%. Lens rotation was seen in one patient .One eye developed iris capture lens. No serious intraoperative or postoperative complications were observed in this patients
Conclusions:
Implantation of IPCL for patients with myopia and myopic astigmatism is safe and effective. More studies with longer follow up and large sample size is recommended
