Abstract Details
Purpose:
The authors are going to describe a case of a patient following uncomplicated cataract surgery, where the foreign body – eyelash was seen in the anterior chamber .
Setting:
A 59 – years old man underwent unproblematic cataract surgery. Phacoemulsification was done by 2.2 mm incision and 2 paracenthesis. Intraocular lens was implanted by an injector . The eye was covered by compress. The patient was instructed about postoperative mode and local therapy.
Methods:
The control was done next day. Visual acuity was 1.0 . Anterior segment was without cellular inflammatory reaction, but a foreign body complete eyelash with follicle was present in the anterior chamber
Local intensive antibiotic therapy was started immediately. The foreign body was extracted in local anesthesia by forceps . The cefuroxim 1 mg was given to anterior chamber. / surgery is on video/
The administration of local therapy antibiotics, corticosteroids and non-steroid antinflamatory drogs were continued.
The inspection was done on the second day. WA was 1.0, without cellular inflammatory reaction. Next controls were done with the same results.
Results:
The occurrence of eyelash in the eye is a rare surgical complication following cataract surgery. The reaction of the eye to eyelash may be variable and unpredictable, varying from absence reaction to endophthalmitis. The position of the eyelash is important for planning extraction. The eyelash is rarely associated with infection. Acute inflammation most commonly occurs within days or after a few months, although the eye can tolerate the cilium for many years.
Conclusions:
This case confirm a necessity of postoperative control on the second postoperative day.
