Abstract Details
Purpose:
Evaluation of early results of Topography-guided Photorefractive Keratectomy (TG-PRK) for retreatment on Post-LASIK residual refractive error with SmartSurfACE (SS) and Schwind Amaris 1050 (SA) excimer laser.
Setting:
Laser Eye Centre
Methods:
Retrospective serial case series. Evaluation on outcome of the eyes with post-LASIK residual refractive error that underwent treatment with the Schwind Amaris 1050 excimer laser embedded with SmartSurfACE technology. Preoperative and post-operative uncorrected distance visual acuitys (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), manifest refraction (MR) and topographies were analyzed after 6 months of follow-up.
Results:
74 had sufficient data at 6 months for analysis. 34 of 74 (45%) showed UDVA ≥20/40 pre-operatively improved to 61 of 74 (82%) post-operatively. 62 (84%) had no change or improved CDVA while 3 (4%) loss 2 or more lines. Mean spherical equivalent was improved from -0.90±1.81D to -0.23±1.04D. Mean astigmatism was reduced from 0.97±1.09D to 0.50±0.71D.
Conclusions:
Early results of TG-PRK with SmartSurfACE and Schwind Amaris 1050 show efficacy and safety as treatment for post-LASIK residual refractive error. Low pre-operative refractive error (˂ 1D mean spherical equivalent, SE) was effectively corrected closer to plano (˂ 0.25D mean SE) post-operatively. Less than half (45%) with UDVA ≥20/40 pre-operatively improved to 82% post-operatively at 6 months. The technique improves uncorrected distance vision to achieve the original goal of patients having refractive surgery and meeting satisfaction.
