Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare the accuracy and homogeneity in flap thickness, evaluated using anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT), 3 months after LASIK performed with 4 different femtosecond (FS) laser platforms: iFS®, LenSx®, FS200® and Visumax®
Setting:
Vissum Alicante, Spain. Novovisión Clinic, Madrid, Spain
Methods:
Prospective, observational study. AS-OCT analysis of the flap thickness was performed 3 months after FS-LASIK performed to correct myopia when using 4 different FS laser platforms: iFS® (Johnson & Johnson), LenSx® (Alcon), FS200® (Alcon) and Visumax® (Zeiss). The same observer manually measured the central thickness and the homogeneity in thickness at 2mm nasally and temporally from the vertex of the flaps
Results:
36 eyes treated with iFS®, 37 eyes with LenSx®, 29 eyes with FS200® and 39 eyes treated with Visumax® were included in the study. The difference between achieved versus targeted central flap thickness was 7.68±6.8, 18.6±8.2, 12.09±9.5 and 2.70±8.9 microns in the iFS®, LenSx®, FS200® and Visumax® groups, respectively (P=0.0001). The difference in flap thickness at 2mm eccentricity from the corneal vertex was 6.27±5.7, 8.24±6.1, 7.55±5.9 and 2.7±8.9 microns in the iFS®, LenSx®, FS200® and Visumax® groups, respectively (P=0.4). No significant difference were found in either the refractive or visual outcomes among groups.
Conclusions:
The Visumax® FS laser seems to be more precise, in terms of central flap thickness, than the other FS lasers tested. On the other hand, Visumax® flaps seems to be as homogeneous in flap thickness at 2mm eccentricity as the other FS laser platforms
