Abstract Details

Purpose:

The coming back of the trans épi PRK imposed an accurate assessment of corneal thickness by corneal OCT. Thanks to the corneal OCT we can access the corneal thickness profile of healthy corneal before doing an trans épi PRK We notice that Even though the corneal TOPO and TOMO is normal the epithelium thickness is heterogeneous

Setting:

Eye Clinic of rabat and the Ibn Sina laser eye center Morocco

Methods:

All our candidat patient of refractive surgery undergone a complet corneal assessment by corneal topography, tomography (pentacam and orbscan) and corneal OCT (OCT SD OPTOVUE) before the procedure, one week later, and one month, three months and six months later.

Results:

According to our retrospective study of more than 50 patients We notice an evidence epithelium thickness heterogeneity ranging from 48 microns to 58 microns in the center of the cornea and from the 55 microns to 67 microns in the periphery of the cornea In the other hand we notice a complet healing of the epithelium around one month after the trans épi PRK

Conclusions:

According to the corneal segmental assessment of the cornea we start to discover the true refractive power of the epithelium When doing an trans épi PRK we should introduce the true epithelium thicknesses provided by corneal OCT and not the supposed epithelium thickness , if not we will be exposed to over or under correction In the other hand the epithelium behavior should explain some case of regression and by the way his heterogeneity could an important sign of suspect cornea
