Short-term clinical outcomes with the TECNIS Synergy intraocular lens (IOL) implanted during refractive lensectomy

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report operative complications, short-term visual and refractive outcome data following implantation of a new multifocal IOL during refractive lensectomy.

Setting:

Optegra Eye Hospitals, UK

Methods:

Observational case series of the clinical and patient reported outcomes of bilateral intraocular lens surgery performed with TECNIS Synergy IOL (Johnson & Johnson, Santa Ana, USA) implantation. 147 procedures were performed and the consecutive clinical outcomes at 1-3 months were recorded in an electronic medical record system. Eyes with recorded co-morbidities were excluded, and EMR data for 108 discharged patients were available for analysis at the time of submission.

Results:

146 procedures (99.3%) were uncomplicated. Mean±SD monocular corrected (CDVA) and uncorrected (UDVA) distance visual acuity was -0.05±0.07 and 0.05±0.13 logMAR respectively. Mean spherical equivalent refraction was within ±1.00D and within ±0.50D of predicted post-operative refraction in 96% and 88% of eyes respectively. 99% and 79% of eyes achieved monocular uncorrected near visual acuity of N8 and N5 or better respectively. Emerging patient reported outcomes data showed respondents were satisfied with their outcomes in terms of vision at difference distances, levels of spectacle independence and reports of troublesome glare and haloes in line with other multifocal IOLs.

Conclusions:

Our emerging data suggest that patients implanted with the TECNIS Eyhance IOL achieve satisfactory clinical and subjective outcomes. Data collection is ongoing to provide comparative data on a wider range of metrics over a longer time period.
