Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate visual outcomes and satisfaction of patients younger than 40 years who underwent refractive lens exchange (RLE) with trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) for hyperopia.
Setting:
Clinica Baviera, Spain.
Methods:
In this retrospective study, we included patients younger than 40 years who underwent bilateral RLE with trifocal IOL for hyperopia. The main outcome measures were safety, efficacy, predictability, and complications. Furthermore, a subjective questionnaire was completed by patients at the end of the follow-up period.
Results:
From september 2012 to March 2019, we found 173 eligible patients (346 eyes). The mean age was 35.5 years (range 21 to 39) and the mean preoperative spherical equivalent +6 diopters (D) (range +1.76 to +10.75). After a mean follow-up of 8.6 months ± 8.6 (SD), the safety and efficacy indexes were 1.06 and 1.02, respectively. Predictability ± 1.00 D was 99.3%. No intraoperative complications occurred. Both eyes of one patient suffered glaucoma. Ninety eight percent of patients reported that they were satisfied or very satisfied.
Conclusions:
Refractive lens exchange for hyperopia in patients younger than 40 years is effective, safe, and predictable with a very high rate of satisfaction.
