Visual and refractive results of RayOne diffractive trifocal IOL

Purpose:
To evaluate the refractive and visual parameters related to distance, intermediate and near vision after cataract surgery or refractive lensectomy of a diffractive trifocal intraocular lens (IOL).
Setting:
Clinica Baviera - AIER Eye Group, Spain
Methods:
A prospective study conducted on 1557 eyes who underwent phacoemulsification (cataract or refractive lensectomy) and were implanted with a diffractive trifocal intraocular lens (RayOne trifocal, Rayner Surgical, England). A complete ophthalmologic examination was performed before and after the operation. The minimum follow-up was 1 month (1 to 3 months). The main outcome measures were uncorrected distance (UDVA), corrected distance (CDVA), intermediate visual (UIVA), near (UNVA) acuities and manifest refraction.
Results:
The study included 1557 eyes, mean SE (spherical equivalent) 1.73 ± 0.77 diopters (D), UDVA (Decimal) 0.29 ± 2.62, CDVA (Decimal) 0.96 ± 0.27 ), UIVA (Jaeger) 8.73 ± 4.66) and UNVA (Jaeger) 14.29 ± 1.93). There was a significant improvement in UDVA (0.13 ± 1.13), UIVA (3.81 ± 1) and UNVA (2.48 ± 0.5) (p <0.001). Postoperative refractive state was within the range of ± .1.00 D (93.52%). Safety index of 1.02 ± 0.06 and efficacy index of 0.96 ± 0.09.
Conclusions:
RayOne trifocal diffractive IOL improved distant, intermediate, and near vision in presbyopic eyes, with good refractive results, efficacy and safety.
