Abstract Details

Purpose:

To investigate visual outcomes, efficacy, safety, spectacle independence and satisfaction after two different models of diffractive intraocular lens implantation, in a large series of cases.

Setting:

Clinica Baviera - AIER Eye Group. Spain

Methods:

A prospective study conducted on 4384 patients (8768 eyes) who underwent phacoemulsification and were implanted a diffractive trifocal intraocular lens, in two Groups (I and II): 588 cases (G I) a Trifocal RayOne IOL (Rayner Surgical, England) and in 3796 cases (G II) a Trifocal FineVision IOL (PhysIOL SA, Liège, Belgium) and a minimum follow-up of three months.

Results:

Mean SE (D) (GI/GII) preop 1.73 ± 0.77/1.77 ± 0.89, postop -0.04 ± 0.21/ -0.04 ± 0.19. Binocular preop/postop: UDVA (logMar) (GI,GII) 0.5 ± 0.2/0.03 ± 0.41, 0.58 ± 0.2/0.04 ± 0.41; CDVA (logMar) (GI,GII) 0.02 ± 0.6/0.01 ± 0.71, 0.03 ± 0.48/0.01 ± 0.4; UIVA (Jaeger) (GI,GII) 8 ± 2.32/3.63 ± 0.98, 7.46 ± 3.98/3.79 ± 0.99; UNVA (Jaeger) (GI,GII)13.05 ± 2.47/1.92 ± 0.79, 13.09 ± 2.47/1.79 ± 0.77; (p 0.05). Safety, efficacy index (GI/GII): 1.02 ± 0.05/1.03 ± 0.06, 0.98 ± 0.08/1 ± 0.08. Spectacle independence % (GI/GII): 98.04/98.24 (p 0.245). Dissatisfaction % (GI/GII): 1.25/1.82 (p 0.777).

Conclusions:

The implantation of this two models of diffractive trifocal IOL provided good visual performance in all distances, as well as high levels of spectacle independence and satisfaction.
