Purpose:
The aim of this retrospective analysis is to evaluate how the planned OZ affected outcomes using the SCHWIND AMARIS system
Setting:
Muscat Eye Laser Center
Methods:
Treatments since 2011 have been audited and segregated by planned OZ. Refractive and visual outcomes have been evaluated “for each OZ” as an indicator of potential differences in nomogram or efficacy of the different OZ settings.
Results:
The data of 29609 treatments could be retrospectively evaluated. Overall, at 3 months, 85% of the eyes evaluated achieved 20/20 or better uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA). 88% of eyes were within +/-0.13 D of the attempted correction, and 96% were within 0.25 D of astigmatism. Corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) improved in 37% of eyes. OZ smaller than 6.25mm (944 treatments) showed the highest retreatment rate (with 2.2% eyes having 3 lines worse of UDVA compared to preop CDVA; 8.0% had a residual optical blur of 0.75D or more, and 0.2% lost 2 lines of CDVA); followed by OZ larger than 7.75mm (308 treatments) (with no single retreatment, but 2.9% eyes having 3 lines worse of UDVA compared to preop CDVA; 2.6% had a residual optical blur of 0.75D or more, and 0.8% lost 2 lines of CDVA).
Conclusions:
The sweet spot of planned OZ for the AMARIS seems to be between 6.25mm and 7.75mm. Results outside this range are still good but show a higher uncertainty in refraction and VA.
