Abstract Details

Purpose:

We have been performing SMILE surgery for 7 years. All surgeries are video recorded without exception.

Setting:

All SMILE (VisuMax, CZM) surgeries were performed at the Breyer-Kaymak-Klabe Eye Surgery and Premium Eyes in Duesseldorf, Germany, member of the International Vision Correction Research Center (IVCRC.net).

Methods:

All videos (planned treatment: 2165 eyes, 100%; completed treatment: 2143 eyes; 98,98%) from the first case on have been consecutively analyzed for complications without exception. The complete variety of complications was systematically documented and will be shown. Suction loss, black spots, loss of lines in visual acuity, refractive touch up rate, conversion to other surgical procedures, incomplete surgery, worsening of dry eye symptoms after SMILE surgery was documented up to at least one year after surgery.

Results:

No patient lost more than one line. Suction loss (1.25%), refractive touch up rate and conversion to other surgical procedures (0.67%), incomplete surgery (1.02%), no worsening of dry eye symptoms.

Conclusions:

Still SMILING. Shifting of all our myopic patients from LASIK to SMILE.
