Abstract Details
Purpose:
This retrospective study reports on the refractive outcomes of the first 30 eyes with 6-month postoperative data following LASIK with a novel ablation profile generated by patient-specific artificial intelligence, ray tracing and personal eye model simulations to generate the unique ablation profile.
Setting:
Wellington Eye Clinic, Dublin, Ireland.
Methods:
The new technology was introduced as part of a controlled release at the end of 2019. 33 eyes underwent ray-tracing guided LASIK for myopia and myopic astigmatism. UDVA, CDVA, refractive outcomes, safety and predictability are reported. No nomogram was used, and the treatment was applied with data derived from the all-in-one diagnostic device measuring optical wavefront, corneal tomography and ocular biometry. The expected biomechanical corneal response and anticipated epithelial remodeling are part of the algorithm.
Results:
The results will be complete by the time of the ESCRS meeting. 6-week results are very encouraging and there is a significant improvement in UDVA, the safety profile appears at least as good as any of the other ablation profiles and predictability is excellent. Given that epithelial remodeling typically takes 3-6 months, the 6-month data has been determined to be the optimal time-frame for reporting.
Conclusions:
Ray-tracing LASIK appears to be safe, predictable and effective for myopia and myopic LASIK. It is simple to use. There are no nomograms used. This is the ablation profile that has the least number of assumptions in the derivation of the ablation profile.
