Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare the corneal biomechanical parameters in eyes with Granular Corneal dystrophy (GCD) and healthy control eyes by using Corvis ST (Oculus).
Setting:
Vision Health Research Center, Semnan University of Medical Sciences, Semnan, Iran.
Methods:
Properties of corneal biomechanics, including first and second applanation length, velocity, time and deformation amplitude (AL1, AL2, AV1, AV2, AT1, AT2, DA A1, DA A2), DA Ratio Max (2 and 1 mm), corrected and non-corrected intraocular pressure (IOP), central corneal thickness (CCT), Corvis ST biomechanical index (CBI) and Ambrosio relational thickness to the horizontal profile (ARTh) were obtained for 12 eyes of 12 Granular Dystrophy patients (mean age of 45.17 ± 18.68) and 20 eyes of 20 healthy patients (mean age of 54.40 ± 3.77), by Corvis ST. Also T-test was conducted to compare the mean differences of biomechanical parameters.
Results:
The following parameters were significantly higher in GDC group: DA A1 (P= 0.005) and A2 (P= 0.047), IOP (P= 0.011), bIOP (P= 0.045), CBI (P= 0.000). DA Ratio Max (2 and 1 mm) (P= 0.022, 0.035 respectively), AT2 (P= 0.048) and ARTh (P= 0.007) were significantly lower in GCD eyes than normal eyes.
Conclusions:
It seems that GCD has led to changes in biomechanical properties of the cornea and CBI as a combined parameter is significantly higher in GCD eyes in comparison than normal eyes.
