Abstract Details
Purpose:
The purpose of the study is to correlate the findings of Effective Lens Position (ELP) to the type of surgery—staged phacoemulsification followed by Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK), or combined triple procedure of phacoemulsification and DMEK.
Setting:
Tertiary Academic Referral Center
Methods:
This is a retrospective cohort study, to investigate the Effective Lens Position (ELP) over the past 5 years who underwent staged versus combined DMEK and phacoemulsification. We evaluated charts from 53 patients who underwent surgery with 3 surgeons at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. The anterior segment OCT (AS-OCT) was used to determine the ELP.
Results:
The charts from 53 patients who underwent surgery with 3 surgeons at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute were evaluated. We observed a smaller ELP in patients who underwent the combined approach when compared to the staged approached and this was found to be statistically significant (p <0.05). There was no difference in final best-corrected visual acuity between the two groups.
Conclusions:
We observed a smaller ELP in patients who underwent combined triple procedure of phacoemulsification and DMEK procedure compared to the staged approach.
