Abstract Details

Purpose:

Evaluation and comparison of the postoperative results of the trifocal IOL AT Lisa tri 839MP (Zeiss) and the bifocal IOL with reduced addition Tecnis ZKB00 (AMO) one year after implantation.

Setting:

Augenklinik Ahaus, Germany

Methods:

Retrospectively the postoperative results of 78 patients (age: 61.7 ± 10.6 years) after bilateral implantation of the AT Lisa tri (N = 156) and 32 patients (age: 63.7 ± 11.6 years) were obtained after bilateral implantation of the Tecnis ZKB00 (N = 64). In addition to achieve the target refraction, special attention was paid to binocular distance, intermediate and near vision as well as postoperative patient satisfaction. The postoperative results of the controls one year after implantation were examined.

Results:

Spherical equivalent was -0.74 ± 3.44 D in the trifocal patient group (TPG) and 12 months postoperatively 0.08 ± 0.18 D and in the bifocal patient group (BPG) preoperatively -1.06 ± 3.97 D and postoperatively of 0.18 ± 0.44 D. IN TPG postoperatively visual acuity was found to be 0.87 ± 0.17 for distance, 0.80 ± 0.20 for intermediate area (80 cm) and for near (40 cm) with 0.92 ± 0.28 for the BPG and 0.98 ± 0.11 for distance, 0.74 ± 0.09 for the intermediate range (80 cm), and 0.74 ± 0.09 for near (40 cm) 0.88 ± 0.19.

Conclusions:

Trifocal and low-add bifocal IOLs are good possibilities to achieve a relative spectacle independence. Former complaints of multifocal patients about seeing rings in the dark (halos), e.g. in backlights of oncoming cars, are now significantly reduced. The concentric rings of the lenses are usually still present, but in the fewest cases they disturb and they are usually only described by the patients after request.
