Abstract Details
Purpose:
To highlight the risks, benefits and special considerations of phacoemulsifications in patients with Werner Syndrome
Setting:
Galway University Hospital, Galway Ireland
Methods:
A discussion of the complications and results of phacoemulsification in four siblings.
Results:
In this sibling cohort there were two cases of refractory cystoid macular oedema post phacoemulsication. Two siblings also showed deterioration in their diabetic retinopathy.
Conclusions:
There are many ocular manifestations of Werner Syndrome. This case series highlights some of these associated features as well as the added risks seen in phacoemulsification
