Abstract Details
Purpose:
The aim of our study was to assess the influence method of delivering a baby and refractive errors.
Setting:
Lithuanian University of Health Sciences
Methods:
In our study we included 500 patients until 18 year old with refractive error. The Teller Acuity Card test was used in infants and small children without language. In older children an optotype test, mostly the Østerberg test or the LH test, was used. In the most cooperative children the visual acuity was tested with ordinary Snellen optotypes. Due to varying degrees of cooperation, the visual acuity sometimes had to be tested binocularly rather than in each eye separately.
Results:
467 were deliver naturally the prevalence of myopia was overall 17.6%, hypermetropia was overall 41.8%, astigmatism was found in 40.7% (p>0.05). 33 were born by cesarean section, the prevalence of myopia was overall 9.1%, hypermetropia was overall 60.6%, astigmatism was found in 30.3% patients which were born by cesarean section.
Conclusions:
There were not any statistically significant different between method of delivering and refractive errors.
