Lithuanian University of Health Sciences

Methods:

6171 children, 2926 (47.4%) boys and 3245 (52.6%) girls until 18 year old with myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism were recruited. All the children underwent complete ophthalmic examination with cycloplegic refraction.

Results:

In female gender the prevalence of myopia was overall 20.3% (95% CI: 19,.3; 21.3) (P<0.001), hyperopia was overall 39.5%, astigmatism was found in 20.1%. In male gender the prevalence of myopia was overall 15.6%, hyperopia was overall 43.4% (95% CI: 42.16; 44.64) (P<0.001), astigmatism was found in 18.9% patients which born by cesarean section.
