Purpose:
To evaluate the refractive predictability and stability results of two stages treatment of femtosecond laser-assisted hyperopic laser in situ keratomileusis to treat high hyperopia.
Setting:
El-Gowhara eye center
Methods:
This is a Prospective, case series in a private practice. Hyperopic eyes with a spherical equivalent (SE) > +3.00 diopters had LASIK. The flaps were created with Visumax femtosecond laser (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Jena, Germany) and the refractive ablations performed with the 500 kHz Amaris excimer laser (Schwind eye-tech-solutions, Kleinostheim, Germany). The refractive predictability and stability of the treated eyes were followed up for 3rd months after LASIK.
Results:
Sixty-four patients (115eyes) received primary hyperopic femtosecond laser-assisted laser in situ keratomileusis. The mean ± SD age of all patients was 40.30 ±13.40 years with range (21 to 64 years). Preoperative mean ± SD cycloplegic spherical equivalent (SE) refraction was +4.29±1.5D, with range (+3.00 to +9.00). LASIK retreatment by lifting the flap for under correction was done in 24 eyes (20.9%). The mean ± SD age of retreated patients was 32.58±11.14 years with range (21 to 53years) with statistically significant difference compared to the first stage patients (P = 0.017). No epithelial ingrowth was recorded.
Conclusions:
The short-term refractive outcomes of high hyperopic LASIK with flap creation performed with the femtosecond laser and retreatment by lifting the flap showed good predictability and stability over the 3-month follow-up.
