Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare stromal bed smoothness after LASIK flap creation with the Femto Visum and Femto LDVZ6 femtosecond lasers
Setting:
The S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery State Institution, Russia
Methods:
LASIK corneal flaps were created in the 8 fresh human globes not suitable for transplantation. We grouped the samples into 2 different groups of 4 globes each. Group 1 and 2 consisted of the flaps created at the 100-µm flap thickness setting using the FemtoVisum and Femto LDVZ6 femtosecond lasers. The corneal stromal beds were prepared for scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Samples were observed at x200 and x400 magnification. Qualitative surface roughness of the SEM images was graded using a roughness grading scale from 1 to 5 by 3 masked observers. Mann-Whitney nonparametric statistical analysis was performed to compare groups
Results:
The results of qualitative surface roughness grading demonstrated that there was no significant difference between the two groups at x200 and x400 magnification (p>0,05)
Conclusions:
This study demonstrates that the Femto Visum and the Femto LDVZ6 had a similar performance and provided flaps with smooth surfaces
