Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate and compare the uniformity, accuracy, and predictability of corneal flap created with the FemtoVisum and the Femto LDVZ6 femtosecond lasers

Setting:

The S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery State Institution, Russia

Methods:

Experimental study: corneal flaps were created in the 10 fresh human globes not suitable for transplantation with the FemtoVisum (n=5) and the Femto LDVZ6 (n=5) femtosecond lasers. The thickness, diameter and side cut angle of the corneal flap were measured with the 3D digital microscope Hirox. Clinical study: 36 eyes of 36 patients were enrolled in this study and divided into FemtoVisum (n=18) and Femto LDVZ6 groups (n=18). The attempted flap thickness and diameter were 100?m and 9.0mm respectively. At 1 month postoperatively all eyes were evaluated with モOCT Visanteヤ and slit lamp with a millimeter scale

Results:

Experimental study: the results of 3D digital study demonstrated that there was no significant difference between the FemtoVisum and Femto LDVZ6 groups (p>0.05, MannラWhitney U-test). Clinical study: the mean thickness of the corneal flap, central thickness and diameter flap were 94.62ᄆ5.59ᄉm, 95.48ᄆ5.72ᄉm and 8.9ᄆ0.2mm in the FemtoVisum group and 95.94ᄆ4.71ᄉm, 96.28ᄆ4.84ᄉm and 8.9ᄆ0.1mm in the Femto LDVZ6 group, respectively. The mean deviation between achieved and attempted flap thickness in the FemtoVisum group and the Femto LDVZ6 group were 5.06ᄆ4.01ᄉm and 4.83ᄆ3.65ᄉm respectively. Morphology of the flaps in the 0-180-degree lines was uniform in the both groups

Conclusions:

Flap dimensions created by the FemtoVisum and Femto LDVZ6 femtosecond lasers were uniform, accurate and predictable. The morphologies of flaps created by the FemtoVisum are comparable with the flaps created by the Femto LDVZ6
