Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the efficacy, stability and safety of foldable hydrophillic acrylic intraocular phakic presbyopic lens (EYEPCL) for correction of presbyopia and associated refractive error.
Setting:
Thind Eye Hospital, Jalandhar, India
Methods:
Thirty-two eyes of 16 patients with presbyopia (+1.25 to +2.25 Diopters) were implanted with Intraocular phakic presbyopic contact lens (EYEPCL). Refractive correction for distance was implanted for 27 eyes (range; -1.0 to +3.0 diopters) and near addition implanted ranged from +2.0 to +3.50 Diopters. Follow up was six months. Outcome measured were Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), Best corrected visual acuity(BCVA), refraction, intracocular pressure, endothelial cell density.
Results:
At end of 3 months distance UCVA of 20/20 was seen in 30 eyes and near UCVA of N6 was seen for all eyes. Intraocular pressure was 15.28mmHg. There was no significant decrease in endothelial cell density. No major surgical or lens related complication occured. Patient satisfaction levels were good.
Conclusions:
The EYEPCL, foldable hydrophillic acrylic intraocular phakic presbyopic lens, provide stable and predictable visual results in correction of presbyopia, with no major safety concern, complications and good satisfaction
