Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate safety, efficacy and stability of SMILE 5 year follow up for cases of low Myopia under 3 diopters
Setting:
Roayah vision center, Alexandria, Egypt
Methods:
prospective non-comparative case series carried out on 158 myopic eyes treated with SMILE from 2010. UCVA, BSCVA, manifest refraction, higher order aberrations and contrast sensitivity were measured in all cases.
Results:
Mean preoperative uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) was 0.45(range: 0.2-0.6), mean CDVA was 1.0 (range: 0.9-1.5), and SEQ was -2.7 (range: -0.75 to -3.5). All these parameters showed statistically significant change in the postoperative period (P <.01). Mean postoperative UCVA, BSCVA, and SEQ
were 1.1 (range: 0.9-1.5), 1.2 (range: 1.0-1.5), and -0.2 (range: -0.5 - +0.75), respectively. a few operativeor postoperative complications were reported
Conclusions:
SMILE is a safe and effective procedure with long term refractive stability. SMILE has been proposed as an alternative to LASIK or PRK, while decreasing several risks and complications of such procedures
