Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the post-operative fare-intermediate-near visual acuity and contrast sensitivity of the eye implanted with this type of IOL

Setting:

San Bassiano Hospital, Bassano del Grappa (VI), Italy

Methods:

We implanted 11 patients affected by cataract, suitable for IC8 IOL implantation. Any ocular pathologies, astigmatism more than 1,75 D and potential visual acuity less than 20/25 were exclusion criteria. All eyes were implanted in dominant eye with monofocal Tecnis IOL achieving emmetropia. In non dominant eye IC8 IOL was implanted achieving -0,75 target refraction. Post operative UCDVA, UCIVA, UCNVA, CDVA,CIVA and CNVA were evaluated by ETDRS test after 1st week, 1st month, 3rd months, 6th months. Defocus curve, macular OCT, visual field and contrast sensitivity by Ophtec ® 6500P stereo optical company inc. were evaluated at 3rd months.

Results:

All of 11 patients were satisfied after 6 months, mean rate grading from 1(poor) to 5 (high) was 4,56 ± 0,23 . The mean IC8 eye UCDVA was 0,0311±0,021 Log Mar, UCVIA was 0,036±0,023 and UCNVA was 0,151±0,001 results remains constant after 6 months. The mean binocular UCDVA was -0,112±0,023 Log Mar, UCVIA was 0±0,017, UCNVA was 0,113±0,011. Binocular Contrast sensitivity was 1.674 LogCS at 1.5cpd, 1.696 logCS at 3 cpd, 1.388 logCS at 6 cpd and 0.748 logCS at 12 cpd.

Conclusions:

All patients achieved very good binocular uncorrected visual acuity for far, intermediate and near vision with excellent visual acuity across all focal distances.Combination of an IC-8 IOL and aspheric monofocal IOL provides patients with stable, excellent vision at all distancesMesopic binocular contrast sensitivity with no glare was within normal range. No patient complained of blurry vision, fluctuating vision, glare, halo, double vision, ghosting image. All reported “satisfied” or “very satisfied” on overall vision.Monocular small aperture IOL implantation extends depth of focus providing 3.0 D of functional vision.
