"Purpose:
Purpose:Present the work of Al-Basar International Organization in the field of prevention of blindness
Setting:
Al-Basar International Foundation (BIF)
Methods:
Al-Basar International Foundation (BIF) is an NGO working in the field of prevention of blindness for the last 27 years. BIF is playing an active role in the “Vision 2020 Initiative”. It achieves its objective via four means:• Establish Base Eye Hospitals• Conduct Outreach Mobile Eye Services• HR Development• Conduct interventional eye surveys for school-children
Results:
Results:Over these years, 27 self-sustainable eye-hospitals were established in Asia and Africa. 1273 Out-reach eye camps (mobile eye services with complete post-operative facilities) were conducted in 44 countries. More than 19 Million eye-patients were screened & treated, 1.69 Million eye-restoring surgeries were performed and about One Million eye spectacles were dispensed. 735 eye-health workers (sub-specialists, ophthalmologists, optometrists, eye technicians and nurses), have graduated/ trained from BIF training institutes in Pakistan and Sudan.
Conclusions:
This entire technical as well as administrative work have been done solely by BIF personal. This paper is aiming to share this glory story with other stake-holders in the P of B arena
