Abstract Details
Purpose:
Correction of AcrySof® SN6AT2-9 toric power using the effective lens position (ELP) in eyes with different axial length
Setting:
Ophthalmology Department of S.M.Kirov Military Medical Academy of Ministry of defence, Saint-Petersburg. Physical faculty of St. Petersburg State University
Methods:
Lenstar LS 900 biometry results of 149 eyes (139 patients) were analyzed 1 month after phacoemulsification with AcrySof® IOL implantation. All of the patient were divided in 3 groups with different axial length (AL): I – AL ≤ 22,5 mm (n=35), II –22,5 < AL < 25,0 mm (n=69), III – AL ≥ 25,0 mm (n=45). In each case anterior chamber depth and IOL thickness were evaluated. Measured parameters were used to estimate astigmatism at the corneal plane corrected with standard toric power T2-9
Results:
Axial length and pseudophakic anterior chamber depth have high correlation (Spearman=0,64, Pearson=0,70, p<0,05). The average distance from the anterior corneal surface to posterior surface of IOL was 4,91±0,22 mm, 5,26±0,23 mm and 5,55±0,23 mm in I, II, III group consequently, differences were statistically significant (p<0,05). The standard toric power of T2-9, AL and measured ELP were used in our theoretical formula to calculate expected value of astigmatism at the corneal plane. It was significantly higher than offered by manufacturer. In I group it was higher than in group II and III
Conclusions:
Assessment of expected ELP is very important in toric power calculation in eyes with different axial length. Standard values T2-9 might provide the overcorrection of astigmatism at the corneal plane, especially in eyes with AL less than 22,5 mm. The value of overcorrection increases from T2 to T9 toric IOL power
