Purpose:
The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of a novel swept source biometry in terms of acquiring OCT images of pathological eyes that are appropriate for later metric assessment.
Setting:
Vienna Institute for Ocular Surgery (VIROS), a Karl-Landsteiner institute, Hanusch Hospital, Vienna, Austria
Methods:
Optical biometry data of patients with certain ocular conditions were enrolled in six different groups. These ocular conditions were differentiated accordingly, “Normal Eyes”, “Corneal Irregularities”, “Dense Cataract”, “Pseudophakia” “Macular Pathologies” and “Long Eyes” Each patient was measured with the IOL Master 700 (Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Germany), Spectralis OCT (Heidelberg Engineering, Germany) and Sirius Scheimpflug Camera (Bon, Germany) in a randomised order. Ophthalmological assessment by the devices include ocular axial length, Scheimpflug imaging of the anterior segment and Spectralis OCT imaging of retina and optical nerve head
Results:
Sixty eyes of 60 patients were recruited. The swept source OCT biometry has shown an excellent feasibility and delivered image quality that in principle are enable metrical analysis and that are plausible when compared to standard devices. Preliminary results and comparability will be presented at ESCRS.
Conclusions:
High resolution swept source OCT scans lead to a better understanding of biometrical data and are likely to improve IOL power calculation
