Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the predictability, safety and efficiency of the wavefront-guided FemtoLASIK as a treatment of high mixed astigmatism
Setting:
The S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery State Institution, Russia
Methods:
We observed 58 patients (58 eyes) with primary mixed astigmatism over 3.0 diopters (D), out of which 28 eyes were operated by the Wavefront-guided ablation algorithm (main group), 30 eyes by the standard ablation (control group). All flaps were formed using by the Femto LDV Z6 (Switzerland) femtosecond laser and all eyes were treated by the MicroScan Visum excimer laser (Russia). The Wavefront ablation algorithm was calculated with PlatoScan software. The cyclotorsion control was in all of the cases. Manifest refraction, visual outcomes, predictability and vector analysis of changes in refractive astigmatism were analyzed during a 6-month follow-up
Results:
The mean uncorrected distance visual acuity improved significantly from 0.19±0.11 to 0.86±0.14 in the main group, from 0.18±0.12 to 0.65±0.16 in the control group (P<0.01). The mean absolute subjective cylinder decreased significantly from 3.22±0.46D to 0.55 ± 0.28D in the main group, from 3.14±0.38D to 1.15±0.32D in the control group. Subjective sphere decreased significantly from +1.23±0.35 to +0.28±0.36D and from +1.19±0.26 to +0.34±0.32D, respectively. Best-corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) remained unchanged in 23 eyes (82.1%) in the main group, while 5 eyes (17.9%) gain 2 lines of CDVA. There was no loss of lines of CDVA in the both group
Conclusions:
The Wavefront-guided FemtoLASIK is effective, safe and predictable procedure for the correction of mixed astigmatism
