Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare Q adjusted Fs-LASIK and fs-SMILE in corneal higher order aberrations and corneal asphericity
Setting:
kasr alainy school of medicine, cairo university
Methods:
60 eyes were studied, 30 underwent SMILE and 30 underwent Fs-LASIKE. Manifest refraction ,UDVA, CDVA, corneal topography and corneal higher order aberrations , corneal hysteresis, corneal resistance factor and Assessment for dry eye were done for all patients preoperatively and 3 months after both procedures.
Results:
there was no statistically significant difference between both groups in Δ Q value with Fs-LASIK inducing more oblate anterior corneal shape (P = 0.2124). Regarding corneal higher order aberrations, there was no statistically significant difference in the change in RMS of total corneal higher order aberration (P = 0.2) with more change of RMS of total aberrations in SMILE group .There was no statistically significant difference in RMS of coma aberration(P = 0.0589) ,however SMILE group showed more change in coma aberration. There is no statistically significant difference in RMS of spherical aberration (P = 0.0543).
Conclusions:
Both procedures increased the total corneal higher order aberrations with no statistically significant difference between both groups. Fs-SMILE induced more coma aberration probably due to the decentration, on the other hand Fs-LASIK induced more spherical aberrations, but all these changes were statistically not significant between both groups. There was also no statistically significant difference in corneal asphericity change between both groups, however Fs-LASIK induced more oblate corneal surface.
